MJ Tobias silver key-wind pocket watch with a porcelain dial featuring a picture of Major General Franz Sigel in excellent condition, mid 1800s. 13-jewel fully serviced movement.
The estate where we obtained the watch said the this was carried by one of his loyal entourage through the Civil War. Franz Sigel started as a colonel in the Union army and ended up as a major general. He was born on November 18th, 1824 and died on September 21st, 1902.
The watch itself has small, normal dings and wear expected on a watch this old. The person who carried the watch was Samuel Wetmore. The small dings in the case were reported by the family to have happened during wear during the Civil War. Samuel Wetmore passed the watch to his brother Seth A Wetmore.
