No two are exactly the same. A gem lab is necessary to verify that color is natural and no enhancements are present. Sapphires can be altered in many ways to artificially enhance color and clarity. A gem lab certificate is necessary to determine if the stone has been treated and how. Almost all Sapphires are low level heated at the mine to stabilize the stone. This is called simple heat or TE1. The color is still considered natural. Roughly 98% of all Sapphire falls in this category. Natural no heat Sapphire is very rare and is all natural.
